Overview

The two Windsor police officers (Sheriff Deputy Andrew Cash and Sheriff Deputy Donald Fletcher) who fatally shot a man suspected of stabbing his former domestic partner June 8 fired a total of 18 rounds, according to Santa Rosa Police.

An autopsy showed that Urbano Moreno Morales suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his major organs, along with numerous superficial, self-inflicted stab wounds. The number of times Moreno was hit has not been released.

Toxicology reports to determine whether Moreno was under the influence of alcohol or drugs will take several weeks to complete.

Moreno, 48, was killed after he lunged at officers with a knife he’d used to stab the woman outside Starbucks on the Windsor Town Green, authorities said.

Investigators also said that Moreno had been removed by deputies from his former partner’s home about two hours before he was shot. He also had been arrested at the home about eight hours earlier on suspicion of being drunk in public.
