Overview

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a man Saturday after a pursuit that stretched through the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, the patrol reports.

The man killed has been identified as Ulises Erives, 18, of Guymon.

About 12:40 a.m. Saturday, troopers chased a vehicle that was speeding near Guymon, the patrol reports.

Erives drove into Texas and then back into Oklahoma,  the patrol reports. About 30 minutes into the pursuit, troopers put down stop sticks. Erives drove over the sticks, stopped the vehicle, got out and aggressively ran toward the troopers. Erives ignored their commands to stop, the patrol reports.

A trooper shot Erives, and he died at the scene about 13 miles southeast of Guymon,  the patrol reports. None of the troopers were injured.

The shooting death remains under investigation, the patrol reported. One trooper, whose name has not been released, has been placed on an administrative leave.
