Overview

A robbery suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting in South Shore Saturday afternoon.

At around 3:15 p.m., police were dispatched to 2660 E. 79th St. for a possible street robbery.

When they arrived, robbery victims gave officers the description of a man with a knife, later described as 8-10 inches long.

Police said officers approached the man and told him to drop the knife. The man was tased and then shot as he continued forward at officers, police said. following a confrontation.

The suspect was transported to the University of Chicago in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police believe the robberies happened inside and outside a nearby Dollar General and Family Dollar.

The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave for 30 days as COPA investigates.
