Phoenix police have identified a woman fatally shot by federal agents while serving an arrest warrant for human smuggling Thursday near Ahwatukee.
Theresa Medina-Thomas, 29, was fatally shot by Homeland Security Investigations agents last Thursday.
Federal agents were attempting to stop a vehicle with several occupants when people inside the vehicle exchanged gunfire with the agents, police said.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials would only say the agents were met with a threat that prompted the agents to respond by firing weapons.
