The officers fired a total of 58 shots at Terrence White Junior who had an assault-style rifle with him in a stolen vehicle that he accelerated toward officers who shot him.
The shooting happened early Thursday morning near Hollywood Boulevard and E. Owens Avenue.
According to police, White, who was shot by officers was a suspect in five armed robberies and one shooting in the area. Police say he was armed with an AR-15 and two airsoft pistols.
Police noticed a stolen vehicle with White asleep inside. An officer approached the vehicle and saw the gun.
"What changed the process was when the officer approached the vehicle and saw the AR-15," said Metro Assistant Sheriff Tim Kelly, LVMPD.
White woke up and drove away from the officers but made a U-turn and then drove toward the officers ignoring commands to stop and exit the vehicle, Kelly said.
The officers opened fire shooting and killing White.
