25 year-old Sadiq Bishara-Abaker Idris was shot and killed by police after he allegedly pointed a gun at police.

Police say at 5:24 p.m., they responded to a report of a theft from a Wyoming gun store. Police did not offer any information regarding the store.

The suspect had reportedly been looking at firearms, and ran from the store with a semi-automatic pistol, before getting on a bicycle.

Officers called in a K-9 unit to assist in locating the suspect, but were only able to locate the bicycle.

Just after 7 p.m., officers followed a tip call to the suspect's location, at Eastern Avenue and 32nd Street, in Wyoming. The caller indicated that the suspect appeared to have a handgun in his back pocket.

A Wyoming Public Safety officer exited his vehicle and made contact with the suspect, who reached for his gun and pointed it at the officer.

Police say the officer fired his weapon in self-defense, striking the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation was turned over to the Kent County Sheriff's Department, to go over interviews and dash cam footage.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, per department policy regarding any officer-involved shooting.
