Overview

Fresno Police said 37-year-old Ruben Maya was found pointing a rifle at visitors staying at The Parkway Inn -- that's when the almost hour and a half stand-off began.

Police said throughout the stand-off Maya shot at police officers over 50 times with a rifle from one of the rooms. In return police stayed back and within that time only shot three rounds.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said if the officers didn't use such restraint this situation easily could have been much worse. 

Caution tape outlined a perimeter around the motel Friday night after police responded to multiple calls that said a man was armed with a rifle aiming it at residents staying at the motel.
