Overview

Police said 23-year-old Robert George Issa, who had a history of mental illness, had charged at police armed with two large knives.

An officer attempted to subdue him with a Taser but it was ineffective, Lt. Josh Jones said at a news conference Monday.

A family member called 911 at 7:23 a.m. because the man was assaulting family members and was in a “psychotic state.” The caller reported that the man was armed with knives and that family members had locked themselves in bedrooms, Jones said.

Officers responded to the man’s home in the 4900 block of Saddle Brook Court, near John R and Long Lake roads. Issa was shot after officers attempted to subdue him by Taser and he ignored orders to drop the knives.

Monday was the fourth time police had been called to the home since last July on reports of Issa’s alleged violent behavior.

All three officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
