Overview 
Ricardo Avenia was killed by a single gunshot to the head, Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said after an autopsy Wednesday.
Diamantoni ruled Avenia's death a homicide. He noted the homicide ruling is indicative of a death at the hands of another, which is not the same as criminal homicide.
Lancaster city police responded to a neighbor's 911 call that their father, Avenia, was going to kill their mother, and she was being beaten, according to the Lancaster County district attorney's office.
Avenia was shot as he was seen holding a woman at gunpoint inside her home in the 500 block of Pershing Avenue, officials said.
