Overview

A man was fatally shot by deputies at about 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, after a reportedly destructive episode at a Subway restaurant in Jurupa Valley.

Authorities have blocked off a parking lot surrounding the corner of 30th Street and Rubidoux Avenue in the Rubidoux area of Jurupa Valley, including a Subway restaurant where several deputies with gloved hands appeared to be investigating the scene.

Deputies with the Riverside Sheriff's Department have confirmed one person was shot inside the store, but would not ebalorate any further.

An ambulance left the area with sirens blaring at 10:25 a.m. Deputy Armando Muñoz said the shooting victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The owner of the Subway, who declined to give his name, said just before the shooting employees called him to say a man was outside the store breaking things with a hammer. Shortly after, employees called back to say the man was in the store. At that point, the employees ran to the back of the building.
