Overview

A suspect wanted in the weekend killings of his wife and her friend in Detroit was fatally shot today following a standoff with police at a Romulus hotel, according to a police source familiar with the case.

The suspect, Pablo Medina, 41, was killed by Romulus police after taking cover inside the Embassy Suites Hotel this morning, the source told the Free Press. Medina was shot after coming out of a storage closet and pointing a gun at officers, police later told WWJ. Police did not respond to multiple requests for comment Monday.

Romulus police said Medina worked at the hotel but had been fired, and appeared to be living in the closet, WWJ reported.

After tips led police to the hotel in Romulus on Monday morning, the building was placed on lockdown. By Monday afternoon, about 10 hotel guests were milling outside the lobby, still unable to re-enter the premises. Officers closed the block to traffic.

Police have said that Medina ambushed and killed his estranged wife and her friend early Saturday outside a home in southwest Detroit. Police said the two were in the process of getting divorced.
