Overview

It began around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, May 30,  with a bicycle traffic stop, conducted by an officer from Operations Division Midtown near North Columbus Boulevard and East Fairmont Street.  According to a recent release the man fell off of his bike and the officer called for paramedics and an additional officer to assist.

Tucson Fire crews responded to the call and treated the man, identified as Osee Calix, 33, for minor injuries that did not require transport to the hospital. According to the release emergency crews were walking away when Calix stood up.  TPD officers were attempting to continue their investigation and detain Calix, when officers said he pulled out a handgun.  A struggle ensued for control of the weapon.

According to TPD Calix fired the gun and continued to struggle with the officers.  One officer fired his own gun hitting Calix.  He was taken into custody and paramedics were called back over to treat him.

He was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to TPD officials.  Calix later died from his injuries at the hospital.
