Overview

Oscar Lotari Romero of Whittier was killed in the July 29 confrontation with deputies, according to Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. Deputy Trina Schrader said deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a family disturbance call at about 11:40 p.m., and found that the suspect was drunk and had been arguing and damaging property. According to police, the subject threatened deputies and said he was going to bash their heads in. Police said Romero went back into the residence where the call originated, then returned with a metal bar which he swung at a deputy, striking him in an arm. That deputy then fired at the suspect, hitting him in the upper torso, while another deputy deployed the taser.
