Overview

31-year-old Mychael Johnson was shot by a Tallahassee Police officer who police say "violently resisted" while officers were trying to take him into custody.

TPD identified Johnson, who has a long rap sheet, as the man who led officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle and then tried to carjack two separate vehicles while trying to escape officers.

Two Tallahassee Police Department officers, whose names were not released, were placed on leave as a result of the incident. One of them fired a weapon, the other assisted in the arrest, said Officer Kevin Bradshaw, a TPD spokesman.

The city's first officer-involved shooting since 2018 began around 7 p.m. Friday, when Tallahassee police officers got behind a stolen vehicle in the area of Capital Circle Northwest.
