Overview

On March 20, 2020, Tallahassee Police Officer Zackri Jones shot and killed Mychael Johnson.  The Tallahasee Police Department claimed that Johnson had attempted to steal a car and fought with another officer before being killed.

Johnson's family is skeptical of the department's claims, and have filed a request to view any footage related to the night in question.  The investigation is pending a grand jury, which could take longer than usual due to COVID-19 precautions suspending courts.

Community and Family Efforts

In April of 2020, local protestors coordinated a caravan to demand an open investigation and the release of all video footage related to Johnson's death.  They also demanded that the names of the officers be released, as well as an independent investigation conducted by a community board or the state attorney, rather than the police department.
