Overview 
The officers had at least one window open in their vehicle at the time, Camden said. The man approached the officers on the passenger's side, Camden said.
While this was happening, officers yelled at the man to drop the knife.
When the officer opened fire, he shot through his open window while leaning over toward his partner's seat as far as he could, Camden said.
