Officers from the LAPD’s Newton Division Gang Enforcement Detail responded to a house call, entered and shot Gomez. Police claim he was armed.

Marco Gomez, 31, a Latino man, was killed in an officer-involved shooting in the 1400 block of 23rd Street in South Los Angeles about 11:05 p.m. Friday, May 2.

According to police, officers from the Newton Area Gang Enforcement Detail responded to a radio call of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers were told that Gomez had fired a shot at someone and then ran inside a home.  Officers prepared to enter the home and search for Gomez after he refused to come out.

When Officers Eric Rose and Kevin Raines entered the home, they encountered Gomez armed with a semi-automatic pistol, police said. Both Rose and Raines shot Gomez multiple times. Police were unable to confirm whether Gomez fired his weapon or not. Authorities said Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene and that the semi-automatic pistol was recovered.
