The agents were on the corner of Hellerman Street and Cranford Avenue around 9:30 a.m. and searching for Kenneth Robledo, 28. Investigators say Robledo was wanted in connection to a shooting that occurred in Philadelphia in July and the marshals were serving a warrant.
Officials say Robledo walked out of the home he was staying in and the agents tried to bring him in. Robledo allegedly ignored their commands and pulled out a gun. That's when the marshals opened fire, striking Robledo several times. He died from his injuries. No marshals or officers were injured during the incident.
Robledo’s mother, Shirley Beal, told NBC10 her son suffered from mental health issues.
“He’s not real, like bright,” Beal said. “He has mental problems so he is a loose cannon. So it doesn’t surprise me.”
Beal said her son called her shortly after the shooting in July. It was the last time she heard from him.
“He was on the run and I haven’t seen him since,” Beal said. “The last thing I heard from him say after he did what he did, he said he didn’t want to live anymore. He was tired of living. I started crying. I said, ‘Please don’t talk like that.’ Then he hung up the phone and that’s the last I heard from him.”
While Beal isn’t shocked by what happened, she says she’s still heartbroken.
“He had the biggest heart ever,” she said while in tears."Sorry."
