According to police, a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed Justin Lee Stackhouse, 30 who was driving toward him on Cortez Road West early Wednesday February 26, 2020.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a deputy saw a car driving with a shredded front tire and heavy front end damage at about 12:30 a.m. The deputy called for backup and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop and drove west on Cortez Road at about 40 mph.
The vehicle then attempted to pull into Walmart at 5300 Cortez Road W., but the car drove onto a curb and became stuck. Deputies called out they were performing a traffic stop, and the driver put the vehicle into reverse and accelerated directly toward a deputy. The deputy, whose name has not been released, fired his handgun multiple times at the driver.

The car drove off west on Cortez Road in the eastbound lane. It again attempted to drive into Walmart but struck a curb and came to rest in the west side entrance driveway.
