Julien Gonzalez, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police Friday, March 2, in the 1200 block of West Lomita Boulevard in Harbor City, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Officers were patrolling the area when they saw Gonzalez riding a bike with no lights about 10:40 p.m., according to an LAPD news release.
Authorities attempted to stop Gonzalez and cite him for "Riding without lights during hours of darkness," police said.
Officials said Gonzalez did not stop. He got off his bike and began to quickly walk away from them.
Police said Gonzalez pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.
