El Paso County Sheriff's deputies identified the man who died in a shooting involving a Border Patrol agent in Socorro as 33-year-old Juan Daniel Jacques.

Sunday, U.S Border Patrol Spokesman Joe Romero confirmed with ABC-7 that the agent was involved in the deadly shooting, stating, "early Sunday morning, an El Paso Sector Border Patrol Agent was involved in an off-duty situation that included the discharge of a firearm."

Investigators said Sunday the gunfire was not related to the officer's law enforcement duties.

Socorro Police say they responded to a call of  an aggravated assault in progress around 4:30 A.M. Sunday on the 300 block of Melendez Road. When police arrived, they found the male victim dead with gunshot wounds.
