Overview 
A Longview police officer shot a driver suspected of leaving the scene of an accident and using his fleeing car to hit him, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspect, Jose Sifuentes, 28, of Longview, later died, Longview Officer Kristie Brian said Tuesday.
Brian says the officer whom Sifuentes struck Monday night was treated and later released from a hospital.
His name wasn't immediately released.
Brian says Sifuentes was involved in an accident earlier Monday and left the scene.
A witness called police.
The officer who opened fire on Sifuentes was outside his patrol unit when he was struck by the fleeing car after the driver ran over road spikes and started to turn around.
Police aren't sure why Sifuentes fled.
