Overview

Jorge Martinez was shot and killed by police in Rogers County Oklahoma during an attempt to serve a protective order, according to Rogers County Sheriff's Office.

"It was about 4:30 p.m. and we'd been dealing with the serving of a protective order and removing children from a home west of Claremore," said Sheriff Scott Walton. "We were serving a protective order on Jorge Martinez, who had a criminal history and a violent past. A deputy responded to that location and knows the kids are in the house and nobody is answering the door."

He said a deputy ultimately made contact with Martinez, 30, who was "extremely confrontational" and kept trying to get to his bedroom at the back of the house.

"He spins around on the deputy and strikes him with a fist in the face. A fist fight is on at that point. The deputy was separated from his radio, trying to get it and asks two adult females in the house to hand it to him and they aren't helpful at all."

Walton said the two women present in the residence were attempting to video the interaction on their phones.

"The deputy took several strong blows to the head and knows he's about to lose consciousness. He unholsters his gun, shoots the suspect, and kills him," Walton said, adding that the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called in to work the crime scene.

The deputy involved was taken to the hospital, was treated then released and is currently on-leave.

"He had a lot of bruises and abrasions, it was a hell of a fight, a deputy all by himself," Walton added.

Court records show Martinez has been to prison for aggravated assault and was released in 2017.
