Overview

31-year-old Jonathan Lee Adams died after police in Montgomery County say he opened fire on them, prompting officers to shoot back.

Accordding to prosecutors, Adams lived at the Pottstown home with his girlfriend.

Following protocol, the two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is investigating, WFMZ is reporting.

According to reports, Pottstown police were called to the home on the 300 block of West King Street Friday night after three separate 911 calls came in reporting yelling and screaming at the home.

Police could hear “noise and commotion” inside, found an open door, knocked, announced themselves and entered, and reports indicate they found Adams at the top of the stairs with a handgun.

He pointed the gun at the officers, and they ordered him several times to drop it before he opened fire, reports indicate.

The officers returned fire and retreated to another room, and according to reports, Adams came downstairs and shot at the police again, prompting them to returned fire a second time, this time striking Adams.
