Overview

According to police, patrol and SWAT officers were in the area searching for Johntwa E. Bosley, who was wanted on several felonies, including aggravated robbery and weapons under disability.

Bosley, 21, was spotted in a front yard and he opened fire on the officers as they approached him, police said.

"First it was six shots, then the girls, you hear them screaming," said Verlon Reed, who was holding a youth football practice near the scene of the shooting.  "We turned to see where it happened (and) that's when we see the young gentleman running toward this way."

Police said Bosley was running toward North Fourth Street when he was shot multiple times by SWAT officers.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two handguns were recovered after the shooting, police said.

No officers were injured.

Legal Action

Two Columbus police officers who killed Bosley were cleared of criminal wrongdoing by a Franklin County grand jury.
