Overview

Johnny Lloyd died when he was shot while assaulting a Craven County deputy Friday night.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, officers were called to respond to a domestic at 250 West Old Dover Road, Dover, at 11:38 p.m. where a woman told emergency responders that a man had shot at her and kicked her out of the residence.

According to Capt. John Whitfield, several officers responded but one, whose name was not released, arrived before the others.

“As he got out of his car in the driveway he was confronted by the suspect,” Johnny Lloyd, who resided at the address, “who basically charged him and attacked him. He knocked the deputy down in a culvert into the water. By the time the deputy came up out of the water the suspect had a rifle,” Whitfield said.

The officer shot Lloyd and administered life saving measures until EMS could arrive. Lloyd died at the hospital.
