Overview

At the end of a car chase, police claim Rueda emerged from the car shooting at officers. Police also,claimed “he was a gang member and a parolee.”

Javier Rueda, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Saturday, July 10, near Penrose Street and Claybeck Avenue in Sun Valley, according to authorities.

Officers were patrolling Lankershim Boulevard and Cantara Street about 6 p.m. when they noticed a motorist, later identified as Rueda, who appeared to be driving under the influence, according to an LAPD news release.

As police tried to pursue Rueda, he led them on a chase. He then stopped his car and exited with a handgun, police said. According to the news release, Rueda immediately began shooting at the officers who returned fire.

Rueda was hit by several gunshots. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
