Eighteen-year-old James Davis, from Watts, was killed by LAPD officers just last month at the Imperial Courts Housing Project. There was about a week of controversy following the homicide, as multiple eyewitnesses claimed that Officer Manuel Castenada had not been provoked by Davis before shooting him. One woman added that no attempt was made to save the 18-year-old in the moments that followed.

The Wave also points out that one year ago, Castenada killed another 22-year-old black male, Joshua Akeeda, in the same neighborhood.
