Authorities said 62 year old James Covington was killed in a shootout with police on November 2, 2015 after leading officers from Maryland on a pursuit into southeast Washington. D.C. police say Monday night’s chase came after an armed carjacking. Police say Prince George’s County and Forest Heights officers chased a car into the city, where a man bailed out and shots were fired.

It was not specified whether an officer with Prince George's County police or Forest Heights police shot Covington.

No officers were reported injured.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to D.C. police. According to police, Covington assaulted a driver in Prince George's County and took off in their vehicle at around 7 p.m.
