James Morris and his wife were outside the Fairfax County homeless shelter where his son, 28-year-old James Bryant, had been living.
On Wednesday night, Bryant was shot and killed during an altercation with police.
"Why did you have to shoot my son?" Morris says. "That's my firstborn."
Linda Washington, a resident of the shelter, says she looked out the window of her room after hearing noises. She says she saw Bryant on the ground and a police officer on top of him.
"I didn't see no kind of weapon, he had no kind," Washington says.
Police were called to the area last night following what witnesses describe as a fight at this 7-11 just a few hundred yards from the shelter.
