Overview

Jairo Armando Pedraza, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police officers Friday, April 4, in the 6400 block of Olcott Street in Tujunga, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. About 4 p.m. Foothill Division officers responded to a call of a man who was attempting to kill himself with a knife, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. When officers arrived, they encountered a man, later identified as Pedraza, armed with a knife, according to the release. Officers tried to subdue Pedraza and used a “department approved Taser.” “The suspect appeared unaffected by the Taser and ran to a nearby backyard where he confronted officers with a knife, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred," according to the release.
