Police shot Williams after he threatened officers, according to authorities. Officers were responding to a report of shots being fired and found Williams in a car with a woman who was seen struggling and calling for help.
Police say Williams was seen fighting with a woman in a car. When Williams got out of the car, officers say he had an AR-15.
Tuesday, members of Black Lives Matter Asheville and other groups held a rally at the Asheville Police Department.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, and the State Bureau of Investigations has taken over the case.
