Overview

In September 1996, Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) Officers attempted to arrest George Williams at a local hosing complex for several warrants.  Officers said that the teenager attempted to run over one officer by driving straight towards him, ignoring commands to stop.  An internal investigation determined that Lawrence Revell was the officer to shoot and kill Williams; there was a disagreement about who shot Williams as late as October 1, 1996.

Revell was cleared of all charges by an internal investigation.

Legal Action

Officer Revell was cleared by a grand jury in 1997.  During the grand jury process, prosecutors declined to call witness Twaneta Rollins to the stand for her testimony.

Community and Family Efforts

Family and friends of George Williams opposed consideration of Officer Revell for TPD Chief in 2019, although he was later chosen and sworn in in January 2020.
