Overview

Elliot Reed, 30 was killed during a traffic stop. Investigators said the officer was conducting a traffic stop Wednesday morning, at the Valero on Cooper Road and Rainey Road.

The officer pulled over a white SUV with the suspects inside, according to police.

Authorities said shortly after 1 a.m., one of the suspects shot at the officer.

The officer was not hit, but one suspect was shot and the other was taken into custody, according to investigators.

Police have released the names of the suspects. The man killed is Elliot Reed, 30, according to police.

They identified the second suspect as Chauncy Reed, 26. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and capital murder.

Police have turned over the officer-involved shooting case to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Several shell casings were marked at the scene, where MBI agents remained Wednesday morning.

Neighbors who live in the area say they are fed up with shootings.

Shameka Fox said, "There's no love. It's causing people to move."

"Each of us has to take responsibility for things going on in our community," Robert Walton said.

Councilman Aaron Banks says work needs to be done on crime prevention versus crime reaction. He's urging people in the community to say something if they see activity that looks suspicious.
