Overview

Authorities have identified a 22-year-old Arizona man killed following a foot chase and shootout with police investigating the wounding of another man not far from the Stratosphere tower in Las Vegas.

The Clark County coroner said Wednesday that Efren Trujillo of Buckeye, Arizona, died late Monday of multiple gunshot wounds.

His death was ruled a homicide, but the coroner’s finding doesn’t establish fault.

Police say Trujillo ran after witnesses identified him as the assailant in a shooting that left another man wounded Las Vegas Boulevard, and was killed after firing several shots at officers chasing him through a short-stay apartment complex.

Japhet was shot five times and remains hospitalized in critical condition, McMahill said. Police haven't been able to talk with him.

McMahill said building security video showed an earlier dispute between Japhet and Trujillo-Soriano in an inner courtyard of an office complex across Las Vegas Boulevard from the fast-food restaurant. It appeared that Japhet took an object from Trujillo-Soriano's backpack before Trujillo-Soriano left the area and returned with a gun, the police official said.
