Overview

39-year-old Edward Hallinan died Wednesday following an exchange of gunfire with police. Three other people were also killed.

The shootings happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday near 35th Avenue and Thomas Road.

Police said officers first responded to a domestic violence call from Hallinan's wife. She told police her "husband had a rifle and was firing shots," according to police.

When officers arrived at the scene, a subject matching Hallinan's description drove by the officers and stopped in the street. Officers then heard a gunshot that came from within the suspect's truck.

The officers began yelling commands at the driver to drop his weapon and show them his hands.

Police say Hallinan then fired a second round from within the truck.

A 41-year-old police officer, who has been on the force for 17 years, fired one shot from his department-issued rifle, which caused the suspect to stop firing.

While the officers were dealing with the suspect, the police helicopter advised officers they could see three additional victims of gunshot wounds in the residential yard to the west of the original call.
