Overview

A burglary suspect is dead after being tased by officers Wednesday night.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the suspect, now identified as 46-year-old Eddie J. Morris, has passed away.

The incident started when Morris broke into a home in the 100 block of Lawndale Road Tuesday night, saying he was being "chased by a bear."

The homeowner, who was armed, held Morris at gun point until officers were able to arrive. At that point, LCSO says Morris tried to attack the officer with a lamp and was tased.

However, he continued to struggle so officers tased Morris a second time. After being detained, deputies say his condition declined and eventually lost consciousness.

Morris was transported to a hospital in critical condition where he later died.

LCSO is continuing to investigate the incident. They note that they are not conducting an internal investigation into the use of a taser because it was not their deputy who discharged it.
