Overview

The identity of the man who was shot and killed by Erie Police following an armed bank robbery is released.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook identified the suspect as Dionne Jordan, 30.

Police say he's had previous encounters with the law, and now they will determine if he was involved in other recent bank robberies.

Erie Police Chief Randy Bowers say the events leading up to the deadly shooting started just after 2:30pm when Jordan held up the Widget Financial on East 38th Street.

Chief Bowers says Jordan entered the bank through the front door with a hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head wearing a mask brandishing a firearm.

Jordan reportedly pointed the firearm at the tellers, demanding money from different locations inside the bank.

Chief Bowers says Jordan was inside the bank for about three minutes, then left, ran north across 38th Street into a wooded area.

There was a getaway car parked in the northwest corner of the Tops supermarket.

That's when police encountered him, gave him several warnings to drop his weapon, but instead he got into the car.

More demands were ignored, and then Jordan got out of the car with the weapon drawn.

That’s when police shot Jordan.
