Derick Powe was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Baldwin County, Alabama Friday evening, April 17, 2020.
Daphne police confirmed the shooting occurred on Johnson Road behind Colonnade Apartments. Police arrived shortly after 2:30 p.m. after local residents reported a man pointing a firearm at people in the Daphmont area.
The residents identified the man as Derick Powe to police and told officers he’d been acting “erratically” throughout the day.
Investigating officers discovered Powe driving around the area at approximately 3 p.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on him. According to police, Powe pulled a firearm on the officers during the traffic stop and was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
