Overview

Trooper Miguel Holguin responded to a report of a man armed with two weapons on a street in Irvington on Oct. 3, 2013.

As Holguin and other troopers approached Dawud Alexander, 24, of Irvington, the man began running.

Alexander dropped a stun gun as he ran, but then pointed a handgun at the troopers, police said.

Holguin shot Alexander four times.

In his use of force report, Holguin said he acted in self-defense. A state grand jury reviewed the case and found that Holguin’s use of force was justified.
