Overview

Two Kansas City, Missouri police officers are on administrative leave following a fatal officer-involved shooting Sunday.

That incident happened around 12:31 p.m. near 34th and Prospect.

Officers were dispatched to the scene after someone called and reported a disturbance between a man and a woman. When they arrived, a woman told police that a man had assaulted her, and she wanted to file assault charges. When hearing this, and seeing the officers, the man fled on foot.

While running, he dropped a handgun. The man picked up that gun, and reportedly pointed it at officers.

One witness believes the suspect fired a shot at officers - that has not been confirmed.

Two police officers fired shots - both striking the suspect.

The suspect was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. He later died as a result of his injuries.

Both officers involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure in these cases.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Dantae R. Franklin.
