Overview

According to police, 30-year-old Corey Bailey of Elkhart was pointing a handgun at a driver, trying to carjack someone when police officers Daniel Mayer and Jared Davies shot the suspect.

This whole incident starting with a bank robbery.

It was a little after 3:30 p.m. Thursday when police responded to a bank robbery at First Source Bank on Bristol Street.

Police say officers immediately saw the suspects in their car driving off.

That led to a chase through multiple areas of Elkhart ending near the intersection of 6th and Wolf.

It was in this neighborhood near the south side of Elkhart that the suspects ditched a Chevy and ran.

Marshall Love, 29, of Elkhart and 28-year-old Devores James of South Bend were quickly taken into custody.

Police say they found Bailey on Wolf Street pointing a handgun at a driver trying to steal their car. It was then police say that officers Daniel Mayer and Jared Davies shot Bailey multiple times.

Officers Mayer and Davies performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.

Bailey was pronounced dead at Elkhart General hospital.

Legal Action

On March 13 prosecutors announced that no charges would be filed against the officers in thise case.
