Overview

The coroner’s office Thursday identified a gunman and the 55-year-old woman he shot and killed before being fatally wounded by Los Angeles police officers in the Los Feliz area.

Carlos Wilhelm, 39, gunned down Lorraine Gonzalez of Los Angeles about 12:20 p.m. in the 4100 block of Willimet Avenue, according to the coroner’s office and the LAPD.

Officers had responded to a “shots fired” call and were guided to the suspect’s location by an air unit, which had spotted him armed with a rifle or shotgun, according to the department.

An officer-involved shooting occurred when officers approached Wilhelm, who was taken to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries, said LAPD Officer Ricardo Hernandez. Wilhelm later died at the hospital, according to the LAPD.
