As WITN reported on Monday, 24-year-old Brandon Joyner was shot by police officers in an alley near the corner of 5th & Reade Streets.
Joyner was shot after police say they saw him shooting into a crowd of people.
"They responded in an active shooter style," Chief Mark Holtzman said. "Three of the Greenville police officers who arrived first on the scene did engage with the suspect and fired upon him in that alleyway."
Officers R. Burke, Officer M. Dail, and Officer M. Haddock returned fire. Joyner was pronounced dead at the scene, while the officers have been placed on administrative leave.
Police say two other people, 19 year-old Cameron McNeill, of Farmville, and 22 year-old Arron Cordanze Allen, of Cary, were also hit by the gunfire and were taken to Vidant Medical Center.
The SBI continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting, while GPD says it is conducting an internal investigation into the shooting, and another investigation into the fight and shooting that happened prior to police arriving on the scene.
