Overview

Barrington Williams was killed by NYPD officers who suspected him of illegally selling MetroCard swipes at a Bronx subway station.

The chase began around 2:30 p.m. at the East 161st Street B/D train subway station. Officers walked toward Williams and he took off, according to the police account.

They caught him shortly thereafter. At some point during the arrest, however, Williams became "unconscious and unresponsive." It's unclear whether the asthma attack began while he was already in custody or before.

A video released in June 2016 shows that for 10 minutes, city cops stood over Williams and didn’t perform CPR as he lay dying from a severe asthma attack.
