Overview

According to police, Albert E. Morton, Jr.  was shot and killed by police after he fled a traffic stop then used his vehicle as a weapon by driving toward a city officer.

Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo identified the man as 31-year-old Albert E. Morton Jr., of Harrisburg.

Chardo said Morton was pulled over in the 1400 block of Vernon Street around 12:45 a.m. but took off, striking the police officer who stopped him. The officer was not injured.

“There had been an attempted traffic stop earlier, because the vehicle was driving without lights. During this relatively routine traffic stop the driver fled, and struck the officer,” said Chardo.

Around 1:30 a.m., police spotted Morton’s car, followed it, and saw the occupants toss out drugs and paraphernalia. When the car was stopped in the Hall Manor housing area, Morton was shot as he accelerated toward a uniformed officer, the district attorney said.
