Overview 
On the evening of February 26, 2001, Andrena Kitt was in her car in the parking lot of the at the Crowne Plaza Grand Hotel. An undercover officer who suspected Kitt of drug-related crimes approached her car, and the surprised Kitt struck the officer on her way out. He was only minorly injured. What the St. Augustine Record described as a "volley of gunfire erupted" from the parking lot, and the officer killed Kitt, who was unarmed.
