The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the man who was shot and killed by Sparks police officers as 37-year-old Abel Lopez-Lopez, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
Police shot and killed Lopez who was allegedly holding a woman hostage in the Park Vista Apartments in Sparks last night, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
At about 7:37 p.m., Sparks police went to the 500 block of Sparks Boulevard on a report of possible hostage situation, according to Bob Harmon, public information officer for the sheriff's office.
As the situation unfolded, Sparks officers assisted by Reno police forced their way into the apartment at about 8:55 p.m., and officers shot Lopez.
