Overview 
He said that officer fired one fatal shot from about 3 to 5 feet away and that Villalpando fell on his back, still waving a gun at officers before he rolled on his stomach and lunged at another officer, this time with a 6-inch dagger.
The scene covered in police tape Sunday had flowers and candles nearby on Monday as family continues to mourn their loss.
“They are distraught. They are lost. They are deeply, deeply heartbroken at the loss of their son,” said Roger Montoya, director at Moving Arts Espanola where Villalpando took classes in dance and gymnastics for 10 years.
