Overview

Investigators have identified the man and police officers involved in a deadly shooting following a traffic stop in Hillsboro Friday night.

Police said Victor Torres-Elizondo, 30, was shot and killed after a traffic stop near 13th and Maple.

A 1992 Honda Accord was stopped for a traffic violation at 9:30 p.m. Officer Tina Latendresse, 41, had a K-9 and it alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the car.

Latendresse has 14 years experience as a police officer, but had only been with the Hillsboro force for 18 days at the time of the shooting.

The officer approached and asked Torres-Elizondo, the passenger in the front seat, to step outside. Police said he then fired on her at close range with a semi-automatic handgun.

The officer was able to retreat quickly. Her partner, Will Blood, 35, returned fire, hitting the suspect.
